Descaling your Coffee Machine
All manufacturers of all different types of Espresso Machines advise the need to descale your coffee machine regularly. Doing this will prolong the life of the machine and it’s parts, and will certainly help you deliver better espresso style drinks.

Step 1
You will need:

• 1 Coffee Machine

• 1 Bottle of descaling liquid concentrate or powder

• 1 Large jug (plastic, glass or steel)

• 1 Stirring spoon

Step 2
Prepare.
Establish that your coffee machine needs to be descaled, this will either by keeping a note of the date required or depending on your type of machine, it will have a warning light advising you.
Ensure machine is turned on as normal and ready for use.

Step 3
Adding the concentrated descaler solution.
If your water tank has a water filter included, remove and put to one side. Add in 50mls of descaling solution to each 1000mls of water in the tank. eg if water tank is 1800mls then add 90mls of solution. Mix with a stirring spoon to ensure even water/solution mix. Step 4
Run the solution through machine.
Place the large empty jug under the Steam/Hot water arm,

- If your machine has a programmable descaling function in it’s menu operation (Mainly for Automatic machines, check your manufacturers operational manual) then follow the direction in the menu and activate the descaling program.

- If your machine doesn’t have a programmable descaling function (Mainly manual or group handle machines) then open the hot water tap/steam arm, and completely empty the water tank into the jug. Repeat this process once more by filling the water tank with fresh cold water and empty it into the jug.

Step 5
Refilling the water tank ready for use.
If your machine has a water filter, put it back into place and fill the water tank to it’s recommended fill line. Run a shot of coffee through machine and discard. This will ensure any remaining residue from descaling process is removed.

Step 6
Make a note for next descaling
While it is fresh in your mind, make a note to descale in 3-6 months time depending on your usage. If your machine has a descaling warning light, you won’t have to worry about this.
